Post #4: Stretch out and relax into the music

How much room do you give yourself to create in? Is your Muse cramped–stuck up in the attic with a bunch of old tennis rackets and cardboard boxes or… is She stretching out across your life, feasting on your experience and vision?

Creativity doesn’t have to be limited to musical and artistic activities. You can use the same passion and intelligence that you put into your music and apply it to your “non-musical” tasks. For example:

The next conversation you have, notice and play with pitch, dynamics, rhythm, and timbre as you speak.

Notice the sounds of other people’s voices as you listen and give the musical qualities of their voice as much credence as their choice of words.

Walk, drive, eat, and communicate with musicality…enjoy it as your experience becomes more and more musical and the boundaries between the creative and non-creative areas of life disappear.

When you expand your musical awareness into more nooks and crannies, you will automatically become more attuned–perpetually sharpening your craft and improving your musicianship.

Your music and your life will have more breathing room.
